Volunteering with Sandhurst Health Walks
We are always looking for volunteers to help us run the programme and there are lots of ways you can help out. Listed below are some of the ways in which you can help us.
Volunteer Walk Leader
A volunteer walk leader is someone who has a passion for walking and a desire to help people get fitter. Our walk leaders receive training from a Walking for Health Cascade Trainer and are then able to lead walks with a small team of Leaders &/or Assistants. We have training so we are covered under the Walking for Health insurance.
At Sandhurst Health Walks we use Google Calendar to help us organise the walk leader rota, this means that you can do as much or as little as you want, or if you would like to have a regular slot, that's fine too!

Volunteer Walk Assistant
The Volunteer Walk Assistant's role is very similar to that of the Walk Leader but hasn't had the training so is unable to lead a walk on their own. We try to have three or four Leaders/ Assistants on each walk, one of whom must be a trained Walk Leader.
Again, the Walk Assistants have access to the Google Calendar rota so you too can do as much or as little as you wish. Again, if you wish to have a regular slot, where we can, we will happily accommodate you.

Admin
We need to put all the data from the walk registers and the health questionnaires into the Walking for Health database so they can monitor the effectiveness of the walks. For this we currently recruit from among our Walk Leaders and Walk Assistants, those who are prepared to spend a little time on the computer. Training and access to the database are given, so you won't be thrown in at the deep end and this is by no means a mandatory function(currently five of our twenty Walk Leaders/ Assistants perform this role).
We also need people to help us with our marketing and writing articles for local newspapers and magazines and for keeping the website and Walking for Health pages up-to-date.
